Berries are in abundance this time of year, and luckily, they’re usually a little cheaper! Berries are often touted as “superfoods” and for good reason - they packquite a nutritional punch. Not only arethey delicious to eat, but they are low in calories, virtually fat free, a goodsource of fiber, and rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants work to “sponge up” freeradicals preventing them from causing harm to the body. Vitamins C and E, carotenoids and flavonoidsare all antioxidants. Think color: red, blue, purple, black – these containpowerful antioxidants, and their beautiful colors will dress up any dish! Toss a handful in your lunchbag, mix in youryogurt or puree in a smoothie, dress up your strawberries with balsamic vinegarand sugar, top your salad, or add to your cereal or oatmeal. However you eat them, make sure to includeberries to your repertoire this summer! Wishing you a healthy summer, Meredith Cummings, RD |

At St. Jude’s Annual Meeting, held Sunday, January 25, Fr. Christopher presented Edna Sinche with the Bishop’s Parochial Medal for her life and commitment to Christ and Christ’s Church in this parish and in the Diocese. In giving the award, Fr. Christopher praised Edna for the following: Edna Sinche is a lifelong and faithful Episcopalian. Since coming to St. Jude’s in 1958, Mrs. Sinche has been active in nearly every ministry imaginable within the parish. Mrs. Sinche has served on the Vestry, the Altar Guild and Linen Committee, Stewardship Committee and the Couples Club (Mixers) to name just a few. She is the current leader of the Senior Judeans and active in the Deanery South Shore Senior Ministry Consortium, she sang in the choir for 38 years and taught Sunday School for nearly 20 years. An active participant in the weekly Bible Study, Mrs. Sinche takes her baptismal call seriously to study Scripture, to provide hospitality and to give generously of herself – her time, her talents and her treasure. There is no activity too great nor too small for Mrs. Sinche to undertake. A churchwoman through and through, her response to requests for help is always, “yes.” She is friend, mentor, and caregiver. She is a model for all Christians and is highly deserving of the Parochial Service Award. |
