During my last semester of high school, some of my classmates prominently displayed a “countdown calendar†to graduation. Each and every day, a different member of the senior class would take a number, tear it off, and another number would appear – a smaller one indicating the days to graduation.
Countdowns have their purpose. They remind us of how much time remains in order to complete a project, they remind us of important dates that will affect many of us (in fact, fellow blogger and priest, Susan Russell+, has a Bush Countdown clock on her blog) and they give us a chance to prepare ourselves for what might be a momentous event.
We’re in a countdown of sorts right now. Since Ash Wednesday, we’ve been counting down the days to Easter. Currently, that number is just 11 short days. For many of us (I’m on that list), Easter is coming way too early and we’re simply not ready. Yet, whether we’re ready or not, Easter will arrive.
The days are counting off. What do you need to do to prepare for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection? What demons are you still facing? We have 11 more days. Let’s pray we don’t waste them.
